Well, I would just eat the whole egg, yolk and all. I am on the zone diet, which is a balanced diet, where you eat nearly equal amounts of protein and carb grams. It has been successful for me, and I don't feel deprived. Anyways, the egg is a wonderful thing to eat, yolk and all. People freak out because there is cholesterol in the yolk, but there are also essential fatty acids in there that help curb your appetite and fight cravings. If you you don't like eggs at all, go with a steak or a hamburger, most breakfast meats like sausage, bacon, and ham are processed and have complex carbs in them. My usual breakfast is a hard boiled egg and a can of V-8. Tides me over.

The best low carb diet I found was South Beach... using egg beaters is not only low carb but low on cholesterol. I don't think they taste much different than the real thing. good luck with the diet...

This is an interesting question and one I've asked before. The truth is there is no credible evidence that supports that a high protein intake could cause kidney damage. The TRUTH is that all the testing for high protein intake was done with people ALREADY with kidney damage and NOT with people with healthy kidneys. A high protein intake would allow your kidneys to enter a state of "hyperfiltration" which is perfectly fine.
It is recommended to take protein in moderation, between 1-2 grams per pound.

If you're trying to get "toned" - I'm taking that as you are doing some cardio and/or weight training with your diet. If so, you need to also be taking in some carbs. The more you work out, the more carbs your body will need to fuel your exercise. As your body becomes leaner and you burn more calories, you will need more of them for proper fueling. If you get into the habit of adding carbs to your diet when you need more energy (20min or so before a workout), then you are ont he right track to health and fitness, as this is how your body is designed to work.
ie: a sedentary person may only need to get 30-40% of their daily calories from carbs, whereas an endurance athlete may need to consume near 70% carbs to meet the demands of their sport.
You should contact a dietician or personal trainer who has experience and knowledge about a healthy diet while working out. These high protien low carb diets are NOT for people who are doing intense workouts. Though its possible for you to do about a week of a low carb diet to cut extra pounds fast - a balanced diet contains more variety and many more complex carbohydrates.

Well 1 gram per pound of bodyweight is good place to begin with. But if you are on a body building or bulking program, then this requirement could go up to 1.5 - 2 grams per pound of body weight, provided it is also supported by regular intense workouts. It also important to be well hydrated on a high protein diet.
